FAQs

Have a question? See if we have you covered here.

  1. I’m an individual interested in taking the CFAN training. How can I access it?

Currently CFAN training is only accessible to active CFAN advisors and select host country counterparts. If you are interested in being a CFAN advisor in future, we recommend bookmarking our careers page to see when opportunities open up.

  2. My organization/governmental department is interested in the CFAN training. How can we access it?

Currently only select host country and Direct Access Entity staff are eligible to join the training; however, we are actively exploring a fee-for-service model for making the training available to interested organizations. While we cannot yet commit to all requests that come in, we would love to hear from you. Please use the contact form to register your details and what you’d be interested in, and we will follow up.

  3. How frequently does the training run?

The CFAN training is a highly intensive, multi-month course that requires both live and asynchronous participation, and coincides with CFAN advisors first several months of work at their host location. Because of this, it is only run at the start of each new CFAN advisory cohort (roughly once a year, regionally.) For example, the Caribbean Cohort training kicked off in April 2024 and will run through Fall of 2024.

  4. I have a project I think CFAN would be interested in. Can you fund it?

CFAN is not a funding entity.

  5. I’m interested in being a CFAN advisor. How do I apply, and what are you looking for?

CFAN recruits for regional cohorts through our implementation partners, and lists all open opportunities on our careers page. When jobs are open, links on that page will take you to the application portal with the respective hiring partner, as well as detailing the terms of reference for the role in question. If we are not currently hiring, you can register your interest in the form below, including your CV, and we will add your information to our database and will let you know when positions are open. Our LinkedIn page is also a great place to follow us and see right away when opportunities occur. There is no ‘ideal profile’ for a CFAN advisor – our advisors come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Some are very junior in their field, and others have been in the professional world for decades. The training aims to level the playing field in terms of key knowledge the advisors will bring to their work on climate finance access. Each country or host location co-creates terms of reference with CFAN to identify what their advisor will be working on, and this will shape the profile of their ideal candidate. Broadly speaking, we seek CFAN advisors with the following qualifications:

  • A master’s in project planning/development, Development Studies, Finance, Climate Change, Environment Science/Management, Economics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in climate finance, infrastructure/related finance, accounting, public finance management or related subject areas
  • Demonstrated ability to design financial instruments and develop climate finance projects in compliance with requirements of various climate finance funds
  • Experience accessing and structuring finance for climate investments, including from international climate finance institutions, strongly preferred
  • Experience in stakeholder relationship building and collaboration with government agencies, donors and/international development partners, and non-government organizations
  • Experience working in developing countries on climate and development issues related to the energy, water and agricultural sectors strong preferred
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Willingness and ability to commit to in-country work for one (1) year and travel as required
  • Regionally based candidates strongly encouraged
