Meet the Regional Technical Lead for the Pacific

By cultivating a community of highly skilled and embedded climate finance advisors, CFAN aims to unlock access to climate finance at scale in developing countries. CFAN advisors are hired locally and work in countries for up to two years on a tailored mandate co-developed by host countries and CFAN, focusing on project finance and design.

Meet Fiji's Advisor

Shelveen Kumar

Background:

Shelveen has over 5 years of professional experience in areas of Strategic planning, Audit & Advisory and Project Management having worked for KPMG, conducting quality assurance audits for various organizations and donor projects, and has also led and participated in delivering key projects for Fiji’s national carrier, Fiji Airways as a Revenue Management Analyst and more recently has gained experience in delivering private sector development programs.

He received his education at the University of South Pacific with a Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce and currently pursuing a Master’s degree by Research in the same discipline. Shelveen also holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Human Resource Management & Employment Relations and has been the gold medal recipient for the most outstanding graduate in the School of Business and Management.

Projects:  

Shelveen will support Fiji in accessing multilateral climate finance by supporting the development of the project pipeline, including:  

  • Supporting the Project Development Unit (PDU) in coordinating sector-specific data to develop robust, evidence-based proposals and help facilitate proof of concepts.   
  • Supporting identifying and prioritizing actions from Fiji’s National Adaptation Plan to develop into bankable adaptation project proposals.  
  • Supporting the Fiji Rural Electrification Fund in obtaining funding and assist in developing a revolving financial structure together with a 3 – 5 year investment plan.   
  • Supporting Drua Incubator in new and innovative development and climate finance such as climate & disaster risk parametric micro insurance and thematic bonds.
